February 13th is International Self Love Day
Inspired by Christine Arylo from Madly in Love with Me, it’s a day where women are encouraged to come together and reconnect with their innate self worth.
Self worth that is not based on achievement, comparison, or unrealistic standards.
It’s about starting a real conversation about what self-love means to you and agreeing to put that into action.
There are now over 700 Team Love ambassadors in 31 countries and I’m hyped to be one of them.
I want you to be a part of it!
Celebrating self-love is not about narcissism or ego.
It’s about self-acceptance – acknowledging your self-worth and showering yourself, and others with compassion ♥
Please don’t think for a minute that I’m resting up here on the lofty laurels of self-love.
I’m still walking the walk. Some days I’m planted firmly in self-love and other days, I feel as if I’m almost starting over. But only almost.
There are substantial gains to be had walking this path.
I have an inkling it’s going to be a life-long travail and I am calling for as many of you to join in as possible.
So, what is self-love?
I think it’s time for a new definition.
Here’s what I came up with.
Please share with everyone, what self-love means to you?
Do you love and appreciate yourself?
Do you connect with the idea that self-love is not something that you have to earn? That you are worthy just by being here, by showing up?
Comment below and if you feel inclined, share this self -love video, wide and far.

Totally love this Kirri!! I have been following Madly in Love with me for a while on Facebook now and have printed off some of the resources. I think true happiness only comes when you have an abundance of self love.

She has some great resources doesn’t she? I adore her use of the tree and how each branch represents a different area of self-love.
Thanks for helping me spread some love around and for all you do to support the online community – You give so much of yourself x
I want to shout this from the rooftops! Self love isn’t about loving yourself sick because of your own hot reflection. It is everything you have said above. Why do mums deny themselves the chance to fill their own tank? I was listening to a random radio station today that the kids had flicked on while I was getting them of the car…. true story…. The announcer was talking about valentines day. He said love is a commitment to your growth and the growth of others. Time to stop starving ourselves ladies!

Ooh Gemma – You took the words right outta my mouth!
Graciously expressed and I might have to quote you on that in the near future “Time to stop starving ourselves ladies!”
such a great video kirri. self love means honouring who i am and accepting who i am 100% – the great and the not so great as I am a perfectly imperfect being.

I LOVED This Kirri!! What a fantastic video explaining so clearly what self love it. Thank you for sharing and all you do to help empower people.

Thanks Caz. The process of making the clip ended up being an incredibly cathartic exercise. It took me so long that one idea just unfolded into another. Love it when that happens!
Great video Kirri. To me, self-love is about stopping and listening to myself. Listening to my body and actually hear what it’s trying to tell me. Usually it’s STOP! SLOW DOWN!
It has taken me a while to realise how important it is to look after myself. If I don’t, then I’m in no fit state to help anyone else.

Our bodies are brilliant at telling us when to slow down aren’t they?
I used to think that a headache was just a headache. Now I can usually see it as a symptom of something else – elevated hormone levels, inhaling some type of chemical, lack of sleep or a cumulative reaction to simple stress.
Thanks for stopping by today Laney. Keep listening to your body
That video was truly inspiring Kirri. I felt like I could burst. Self- love to me is everything you said! Self-love for me is accepting myself, flaws and all!

Penny recently posted…Fish for Kids: The Benefits of Fish as Pets
Thanks Penny. That’s been a huge takeaway for me as well – learning that my flaws are nothing to be ashamed of. Ive spent so many years thinking that if I was disciplined enough, I could ‘perfect’ myself ..and THEN I would be worthy of love and respect.
It’s beyond liberating to finally accept myself as I am right here, right now x
The video is awesome Kirri. Just had to watch it twice and I am sure I will go back for more. The bit that resonates most for me is “Part of self love is giving yourself what you need”. Yes, yes, yes!! Why hadn’t I worked out that I could do that for myself before recently?
I am sorry that I haven’t been able to write a post for this, but rest assured that I have been busy putting self love into practice! xx
Lee recently posted…Who is this running woman?
No apology necessary Lee. Thanks for showing up – Thanks for always showing up actually – not just for me but for yourself. I feel like I have been observing some kind of metamorphosis with you in the past year – it’s freakin’ beautiful x
I’m going to start self-love day with a much needed 10 minute meditation session tonight. And yes, it’s so true. self-love isn’t about being narcissistic. It’s just about looking after yourself. Thanks for sharing this, Kirri x
